Fiskardo Private Cruise
The Venetian harbour that survived. Approach it the right way — from the sea.
Most of Kefalonia was destroyed in the earthquake of August 1953. Fiskardo, in the far north of the island, was not. The Venetian buildings that line its harbour — terracotta, ochre, deep rose — are original, not reconstructed. They have been there since the 16th and 17th centuries, weathered but intact. The harbour itself is small, sheltered, and deep enough for yachts. When you approach by boat and the buildings come into view around the headland, it is one of the more striking arrivals in the Ionian.
AURA's Fiskardo cruise departs from Nydri, Lefkada, crosses the channel between Ithaca and Kefalonia — a passage that is calm, narrow, and beautiful in itself — and arrives in Fiskardo harbour in late morning. Time ashore: the waterfront, the old lighthouse, the Byzantine chapel above the town. The afternoon route on the return covers hidden coves on Kefalonia's eastern shore that road maps don't show, with a swim stop in clear water before the crossing back to Nydri.
Groups of 1 to 11. Fixed boat price includes captain, fuel, snorkelling equipment, and drone footage. The Fiskardo cruise is the same route as the full Kefalonia day — the name reflects where most guests want to spend their time ashore. Departure early morning, return by early evening.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Fiskardo different from other Greek harbour villages?+
Fiskardo is the only village in Kefalonia that survived the 1953 earthquake entirely intact. The Venetian buildings along its waterfront — terracotta, ochre, deep rose — are original, dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. Approaching by boat, the buildings appear around the headland in a way that arriving by road simply doesn't replicate.
What can we do in Fiskardo beyond the harbour?+
The waterfront walk, the old Venetian lighthouse, and the Byzantine chapel above the town are the main stops ashore. After Fiskardo, the afternoon route covers hidden coves on Kefalonia's eastern coast that road maps don't show — accessible only by boat. Swimming in those bays, with no road access and almost no other vessels, is a very different experience from anything reachable overland.
What is the best time of year for the Fiskardo cruise?+
June through September offers the most reliable conditions for the crossing. July and August bring the meltemi wind in the afternoons across the open Ionian, so early departures are important. June and September tend to be calmer and less crowded in Fiskardo harbour itself — the village is quieter and the water is still warm.
