Everything You Need to Know Before You Book
If you've never done a private boat charter before, it's normal to have questions. What exactly am I paying for? What do I need to bring? Is food included? How many stops do we make? This guide covers everything.
How Long Does a Cruise Last?
It depends on your chosen destination:
- Sunset Cruise (3 hours): Afternoon departure, return after sunset. Best for couples and small groups looking for a relaxed evening on the water.
- Half-day cruise (5-6 hours): Usually morning to early afternoon. Covers nearby destinations like Porto Katsiki, Scorpios, or Sivota Bay.
- Full-day cruise (8-10 hours): The full Ionian experience. Paxos, Ithaca, Kefalonia, or a full Lefkada coastal circuit. Morning departure, late afternoon return. Typically includes 2-4 swimming stops.
What's Included
Licensed captain: An experienced AURA captain handles all navigation, anchoring, and safety. You don't need any boating knowledge or license.
Private vessel: The entire boat is yours for the day. No shared tours, no strangers. 1–11 guests.
Wi-Fi: Yes, there's Wi-Fi on board. Useful for sharing photos in real time, or simply staying connected if needed.
Private-label wine: On departure, guests receive a complimentary private-label wine (700ml bottle) — included with every charter.
Drone video and aerial photography: At suitable stops, the captain captures aerial footage with a drone. The video and photos are yours to keep.
Port fees: Anchorage and port fees are included. No surprise charges at the dock.
Soft drinks & snacks: Soft drinks and light snacks are on board on every cruise.
Underwater photos: At the swimming stops we take underwater photos with an action camera — yours to keep, together with the drone footage.
VAT: All prices include VAT.
What's NOT Included
Fuel (on longer routes): For destinations like Paxos, Ithaca, and Kefalonia, fuel is calculated separately on the day of departure. The captain gives you an estimate in advance — it's never a surprise.
A full meal: A full meal isn't included (soft drinks and snacks are). You can add an optional food package when you book — Light & Chill €20, Dolce Vita €25 or AURA Gourmet Journey €35 per person. You're also welcome to bring your own food and drinks — there's a cooler on board. And if you'd like a sit-down meal, we can stop at a waterside restaurant (at your own cost).
Specialized dive equipment: If you want scuba gear, ask when booking and we'll advise on what's possible.
What to Bring
- High-SPF sunscreen — there's no shade on open water, and the Ionian sun in summer is serious
- Any extra food or drinks you'd like (there's a cooler on board) — or add a food package when you book
- Swimwear and towel
- Cash or card for fuel on longer routes
- A light layer if you're traveling in September or October — the sea breeze cools quickly after sunset
How Many People Fit?
1–11 guests on our boat. The price is per boat, not per person — which means the per-head cost drops significantly as your group grows. A party of 8 or 10 makes a full-day cruise genuinely affordable compared to individual tour tickets.
Can I Choose the Stops?
Yes. We have recommended itineraries for each destination, but they're starting points. Want to stay longer at one beach and skip a stop you don't care about? Want to anchor in a quiet cove you've seen in photos? Ask during booking and we'll incorporate it. The day is yours.
The Short Version
An AURA private cruise isn't a tour — it's a charter. The boat, the captain, the route, and the timing are arranged around you. What you're paying for is access to the Ionian that you simply can't get on a shared tour: your own anchorage, your own schedule, and water that feels like it belongs to your group alone.
